Unix operating systems are absolutely required when it comes to the bioinformatics analysis. We will introduce some basic skills so that you will be prepared for the analysis of your own sequencing data. The content of this section is very similar to Part 1 from Unix & Perl Primer for Biologists. You can think of this section as the Part 1 of that book condensed to a whole morning session. In terms of unix introduction, that is the best tutorial I have ever seen. I cannot do anything better than that.

You might need to do some preparation work before starting the turorial. If you are using a Linux or Mac computer, you are ready to go. If you are using a Windows computer, follow this tutorial to install WSL in your system. You can safely ignore Method 1. Just follow Method 2 from the tutorial.
